PHASE Three

The final phase was landscaping the grounds. We brought in the various pieces of machinery needed to manufacture to the contractors requirements, what ever was needed to complete this stage, implementing the same policy as was successful in phases one and two.
Crafting all the masters, taking tooling moulds from these, but instead of Fibre-glass or plaster these moulds would be filled with a concrete mix. Such items as, Yorkstone paving, pier caps, copping stones, bollards and Path edging stones etc. The only additional non concrete items for landscaping were the ornate fibre-glass street lights.

Conclusion

From start to finish, It was a pleasure working on this building, to see it gradually transform from a drab former Roller skating rink, that by now would probably have been demolished, into the very grand almost palatial building that it is to day Its a credit to the owner who had the vision to see it.

For English Heritage Mouldings, we are only limited by your Imagination.

A most beautiful five-star private members club, built in a Romanesque Style with period features including columned swimming pool, marble halls and wonderful landscaped grounds.

The Styling begins

I was asked to help transform this former roller skating rink into the building that it is today.
The entire project took some seven years, and was the subject of immense local speculation during its build, as to what its final use was to be, such is the level of its architectural change in styling
My involvement, after the initial structure was extended, lasted approximately three years.
It was an immensely interesting project that called on experience gained over 25 years within the Glass Reinforced Plastics industry and associated trades.
All individual items were crafted on site, from the stone work and street lights outside to the coving cornicing and columns inside. Moulds were then taken from these, so each and every item could be replicated as and when the building progressed. This gave the project a greater degree of control not least of all on the cost factor, manufacturing not only what was needed but when it was needed was an enormous advantage.
If you are ever fortunate enough to see this building in its entirety, I feel sure you would understand the immense sense of pride and achievement I have for The Athenaeum club.

Phase one

Works began by crafting all the individually designed sections (these are called masters) for the external detailing to the building. From the masters, tooling moulds were taken, followed by the production of the fibre glass mouldings. These included items such as parapet mouldings, to surround the entire building, columns, door and window surround detailing and decorative panelling. Two imposing turrets were fashioned, one located above the swimming pool, the other adorns the library.

Phase Two

Moving inside, there was a much lower volume of G.R.P. used within the buildings detailing. The main requirements were door and window surround detailing and columns. Some columns were manufactured in a one piece moulding whilst others were made in two sections and then joined on sight around structural metalwork, a perfect disguise! With the G.R.P. finished internally, our attentions turned to the decorative plaster detailing. We manufactured all our own silicone and latex moulds for all coving cornicing and embellishment features. This allowed us greater freedom to manufacture only the required amount of plaster casts as required for each phase of the build. It also
gave us greater flexibility on any changes to design. We simply made some more of the required items there and then.
